Kirkby Stephen Cattle –  January 11, 2010

On Monday Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual January show & sale of cattle. The adverse weather conditions nationally had a major effect on numbers present, however those who managed to get to the market were delighted with prices received.

The pre sale show was sponsored by I’ Anson and most ably judged by Paul Hodgson, Lincoln who awarded the championship to a superb Limousin Bullock consigned by Messrs G Sowerby, Terry’s Farm, Ormside and later selling for £1,110 to the judge.

Top quality cattle regularly sold for prices in excess of £1,000 whilst yearling Bullocks regularly exceeded £700.  Heifers were also in demand as a strong contingent of purchasers looking for breeding cattle ensured the prices received were up on the year.

Cow also met with a keen enquiry as the 35 forward topped at 134.50p/kg for a Blonde D’Aquitaine from Mr R Balmer, Grassgill.
