On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of Prime Stock, on their Red Market.

 

A similar trade was seen for quality Cattle, with a top of 190.5p/kg for a wonderful Limousin cross Heifer from Low Side, Purchased by Mr N Bellas, Shap Butcher.

 

Bulls maintained recent prices, with weights restricting high prices.

A good entry of 36 OTM cattle were forward at Kirkby Stephen Mart on Monday when they held their fortnightly sale of Cast cows and store cattle. 

 

Topping at £813.80 was an excellent Limousin cow consigned by Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park.  All classes of cows sold well with a very strong trade being achieved, which was well in line with the current national trend.   Many more cows could have been sold.

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 2,873 Prime Sheep, comprising of 2,061 Prime Lambs & 812 Cast Ewes & Rams.

 

The largest show this season fetched extra buyers for what was a wonderful show of Lambs.  Topping the sale was a wonderful pen of Beltex Lambs from Mr JB Bowness, Bank Farm, making 209.0p/kg (£94.00) purchased by Cranston’s Quality Butchers.

All weights were sort after, regularly making £24-£30 over their weight.  Light Lambs are also in demand.

 

Cast Ewes and Rams sold to extreme rates once again, with all vendors pleased.

Kirkby Stephen Weekly Sheep – Tuesday 13 July 2010

 

A massive entry of 1735 sheep were forward at Kirkby Stephen on Tuesday night consisting of 1343 spring lambs & hoggs also 392 cast ewes and rams. 

 

12 active buyers present bided eagerly for all classes of lambs which resulted in an average of 163.77p/kg being achieved.  Topping at 202p/kg were excellent Beltex lambs consigned by      D & CE Marston, Easegill Head.

 

Many pens of smart lambs sold from 180-202p/kg with good pens of first cross lambs regulary achieving 170-175p/kg.  An ever increasing number of Mule lambs were forward and sold to a top of £65.80 from Easegill Head.

 

The 392 cast ewes and rams forward also sold to a fantastic trade with all classes once again being dearer on the week.  Big fit Swaledale ewes regularly brought £55-£66, with leaner sorts often fetching £35-£40.  Good continental x ewes regularly exceeded £85-£95.

Kirkby Stephen held their fortnightly sale of OTM & Store Cattle when a good entry of 30 cast cows were forward.

 

A nearly total show of Dairy cows saw a very strong trade being achieved again.  Many meaty Black & White cows were regularly 90-100p /kg which is a very good trade on the recent national trend.  Many more cows could have been sold to vendor’s advantage.

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 1,360 Prime Sheep, comprising of 1,051 Prime Lambs & 309 Cast Ewes & Rams.

 

Top price of the day was 203.0p/kg for a pen of Texel Lambs from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, purchased by Cranston’s Quality Butchers.

 

Top price per head was £102.00 for a Texel Lamb presented by Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, bought by Mr Gavin Little, Market Arcade.

 

With numbers still not in abundance trade sharpened from Tuesday’s markets, with all buyers complementary of the standard of stock.

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their “July Bumper” Cast Cow Show & Sale, with 114 Cattle for the Sale.

 

Mr James Mather Kindly judged this section, with some outstanding beasts in each class, a fabulous British Blue Cow received Champion Honours from Messrs P & MR Carruthers, Rawfoot.  She later went on to make 183.5p/kg (£1583.61), purchased by Mr C Kirkpatrick.

 

The whole sale was a huge success for geld cow sellers, with prices exceptional.

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of Prime Stock.

 

With more numbers and quality about, buyers were in good presence. Trade was sharper on the week, with a top of 196.5p/kg for a Limousin Heifer from High Knipe and purchased by Hamlet Butchers.

 

A wonderful run of Bulls from Lowside saw the 160p/kg barrier broken, with the beast being purchased by Mr Atkinson.

Kirkby Stephen Weekly Sheep – Tuesday 6 July 2010

 

An increased entry of 1,517 sheep were forward at Kirkby Stephen mart on Tuesday night, consisting of 1,140 lambs and hoggs and 377 cast ewes and rams.  Once again the 10 active buyers present ensured Kirkby Stephen to be a competitive market to sell your sheep and resulted in the trade being in line and above the day’s national trend. 

 

Topping at £80 were a pen of smashing Beltex lambs consigned by Needless Hall.  Many pens of smart well fleshed lambs sold from 160-170p/kg, with good pens of first cross lambs regularly reaching 155-160p/kg.  A good show of Mule lambs were forward and topped at £60.20 from Tarn House.

 

An entry of 377 cast ewes and rams were forward and sold to an excellent trade with all classes being dearer on the week.
