APPLEBY’S annual rotary fun run in aid of local primary schools had an Australian theme for one group of pupils.
Long Marton Community Primary School runners wore the Aussie flag, carried boomerangs and kangaroos to say a very public farewell to their teacher Ruth Elston who is moving to Australia with her family this month.
Pictured in a practice session with Mrs Elston near their school, the pupils brought a taste of the down-under to Long Marton.
An avid runner, Mrs Elston is a regular competitor in the fun run organised by Appleby Rotary Club. Her pupils have been studying Australia as part of the national curriculum and used their findings to make it an extra special final fun run for their teacher.
