A LOCAL mountain rescue team have received a cash boost from city church group.
A group from the Brooklands Catenian Circle in Sale, Manchester visited Ogilvie House in Patterdale to present Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team with a cheque for £500 to mark the Catenian Centenary.
Chairman of the PMRA and team member Tim Jones said: “John Skelhorn, as President of the Circle, chose Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team as one of his selected charities in the Centenary year. The connection goes back many years to when John used to visit the valley and got to know Father Frank Hughes, the parish priest at the St Philip Howard Chapel in Glenridding and, in his time, a member of the Team.”
Father Hughes died some years ago but John remembered that connection. He said: “With so many very worthy causes to support, I found selecting my Presidential charities a most difficult job but I recall many discussions with Fr Hughes about the dedication and professionalism of all the mountain rescue teams and especially Patterdale.”
Presenting a cheque for £500 to Tim Jones, John said: “In a small way it’s as much in the memory of Fr Hughes as it is to recognise the dedicated members of the Patterdale Rescue Team and the invaluable work they do on the Lakeland fells for the benefit of us all”.
