FIVE Penrith businesses supported a five-a-side charity football event to raise £384.25 for Hospice at Home and Eden House Children’s Hospice.

The event, held at Penrith Leisure Centre involved Atkinson Builders, Eden Housing Association (EHA), Integral, John Richardson’s and Travis Perkins.

Eden Housing Association won with a last minute goal from Ross Cowperthwaite - beating Atkinson’s Builders who were dominant throughout the tournament and just lost out in the closing seconds of the final.

The trophies were donated by Integral in memory of Ben McCreadie, the son of Andrew McCreadie from Integral, who died earlier this year - they were presented after a buffet sponsored by Atkinson’s Builders.

Most goals scored was won by Ross Cowperthwaite from EHA who scored six and the player of the tournament was John Clasper - Operations Director and goalie for EHA who also stepped in to be goal keeper for Integral when their goalie was injured during their first match.

Laura Mills, one of the organisers from Eden Housing Association said: “We are pleased at how well the tournament went. We raised ÂŁ384.25 for Hospice at Home and Eden House Children’s’ Hospice in Carlisle. The tournament is gathering momentum for next year already, with several Penrith businesses wanting to take part.  Hopefully it will become an annual event with the trophies becoming a perpetual memorial to Ben McCreadie.”
