STUDENTS from Kirkby Stephen Grammar School battled it out in a Dragon’s Den style enterprise challenge with Rotarians for a cash prize and the title Rotary Challenge 2010 winners – and now the wait is on to discover who will receive the award.
The final nine teams of Year 10 students had to present a written brief and presentation about their business venture to impress the local business people from Upper Eden Rotary; John Begg, Ben Lyon and Ivor Alonby.
Head of ITC and Business Studies at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, Mike Sunderland said: “We are very grateful to Upper Eden Rotary for sponsoring the business challenge. They have been involved in the challenge for several years and have now been the total sponsor for three years.
“All the students involved are studying Business and ICT GCSE and the Enterprise Challenge is an important part of their work.
“We are very grateful to John, Ben and Ivor for judging not only the finalists but all the students who entered the challenge. The nine finalists have received a small cash prize for reaching this stage and there will be additional cash prizes for the first, second and third placed groups.”
Mr Begg added: “The winning group will attend an Upper Eden Rotary Club meeting to give their presentation to all the members.”
The finalists were: Joe Ferguson with his Climbing Centre, Abi Pepper and Nina Smart with their Jewellery Hire, Tom Horoyd and Powell McKenzie with their Stopping Smoking Support, Grace Hurst and Katherine Head with their Little Box Boutique, Sami Whitehead and Angelica English with S&A Activities, Darren Clark and Thomas Dixon with Hartley Hi-Fly, Nicole Nicholson with Shennanigans, Emma Davies and Claire Holme with Break Away and John White and Edward Hird with J&E Farm Services.
